Emma: End Titles

Rachel PORTMAN

1960

Released in theaters a few months later, in 1996, Douglas McGrath’s Emma, starring Gwyneth Paltrow in the title role, allowed Rachel Portman to become the first female composer to win an Oscar. The opening of the “End Titles” briefly outlines Emma’s theme, quickly interrupted by a playful dance. A calmer section follows, where the solo harp reprises and develops the main theme.
