A pinnacle of classical music, the work entitled The Seven Last Words of Christ immerses the listener in a spiritual introspection as palpable as it is intimate. The powerful themes addressed by Haydn are illustrated by short excerpts from Quebec literary works read between the movements by actor Renaud Paradis.
Conducted by Principal Guest Conductor Julian Kuerti, Haydn’s score, at once simple and profound, takes the form of a journey to the confines of the human soul.
The readings are taken from the following works:
La femme qui fuit, Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette
Close to Paradise, Patrick Watson
L’orangeraie, Larry Tremblay
Les bons débarras, Réjean Ducharme
Ru, Kim Thúy
Code 99, François Archambault
Incendies, Wajdi Mouawad
