The Chœur Métropolitain will delight audiences with every choral ensemble’s favourite piece: Carmina Burana. At once powerful, dramatic, playful and measured, these secular cantatas were inspired by medieval poems and set to music in 1936 by Carl Orff. A joy to sing and listen to, particularly in their arrangement for piano and percussion!
The first three pieces on the program also skilfully combine heritage and modernity. The works by Montréal’s Karen Young, Vancouver’s Katerina Gimon and Haitian-born American Sydney Guillaume are rhythmic, engaging and intoxicating. They reflect the best of what modern choral music has to offer: its power to bring people together.
