Virtual 3rd edition

For the 3rd edition of its OMNI Competition, the Orchestre Métropolitain is inviting you to to share your talent! Through this positive, fun and stimulating competition, you will be able to work with OM musicians to further your musical growth and development.

 

The OMNI Competition is open to all young musicians between the ages of 7 and 17 as of April 28, 2021. Register and submit a video recording by April 28, 2021! Video recordings will be streamed on a public YouTube channel from May 28 to 30, 2021. 30 finalists selected from the video submissions will then move on to one last round of the competition in June 2021.

This year’s OMNI Competition will give young people between the ages of 7 and 17 the opportunity to share their talent in a friendly competition that creates a sense of togetherness, a core value of OM musicians and conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Not only will the event build a network of young musicians who share a passion for music, but it will give them the opportunity to work with Orchestre Métropolitain musicians virtually. It’s sure to be a formative experience!

Candidates are divided based on their age and instruments.

 

Age categories:

  •   7-11 years old
  •   12-14 years old
  •   15-17 years old

 

 

Instrument categories:

  • The strings & guitar category includes candidates who play violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp and guitar.
  • The piano category includes only candidates who play piano.
  • The wind category includes candidates who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, saxophone or tuba.

Several prizes available
for young musicians

Thanks to the generosity of its partners, the 2021 OMNI Competition will award the following prizes:

 

François Schubert Grand Prize

A $5,000 cash prize to the winner of the 15–17 year old category*

 

Hydro-Québec Prize

A $2,000 cash prize to the winner of the 12–14 year old category*

 

Yannick Nézet-Séguin Prize

A $2,000 cash prize to the winner of the 7–11 year old category*

 

* Winners will be selected in each instrument category.


Other prizes will be announced later, particularly the Jury’s Choice Prize, given to winners in each instrument category, and the new Public’s Choice Prize. In the event of a tie, the jury reserves the right to divide a cash prize in half, with the exception of the François Schubert Grand Prize.

 

Each participant will receive a participation prize and constructive comments from the jury, made up of OM musicians and artistic partners.
