Announcement of the winners

The Orchestre Métropolitain is pleased to announce that bass trombonist Éli Turmel is the winner of the 6th edition of the OMNI Competition, receiving the François Schubert Grand Prize.

For the sixth year running, 243 young Canadian performers aged 7 to 17 had the opportunity to demonstrate their musical talent before a jury. 36 young performers made it through to the final round and stood out in their respective categories, sharing scholarships totalling almost $30,000. Their perseverance, determination and passion for music were rewarded.

But whether or not they received a bursary, each of the young people who took part in the competition came away with a rich experience that we hope will encourage them to continue practising their instrument.

The OMNI Competition encourages young people to play their instruments and showcases their talent in a healthy environment, fostering the musical growth and development of each participant.

Upcoming competition: 2026

We would like to thank you warmly for your enthusiasm and talent, which have made each edition of the OMNI Competition a unique and inspiring experience.

In order to pursue our commitment to promoting the next generation of musicians, we have decided to suspend the Competition in 2025. This break will allow us to strengthen and enhance the Competition so that when it returns in 2026, we can offer you an even more rewarding experience.

We encourage you to fill in this short questionnaire with your impressions and suggestions to help us improve future editions of the Competition.

PARTICIPATION TRACK

Crescendo Prize
10 Crescendo prizes will be awarded to recognize the potential of certain participants and encourage them to continue practising their instrument. Accompanied by a $100 scholarship, these prizes will be
presented at the end of the first round of the competition.

Draw
Several prizes will be awarded in a draw involving all participation track participants. The actual prizes
will be announced at a later date.

Participation and People’s Choice awards
Each participant will receive a participation prize and constructive comments from a jury formed of OM musicians and collaborators. In addition, when the first round of the competition is posted for viewing, a People’s Choice Award will be given in each instrument category to the participant having received the most votes.

COMPETITION TRACK

Grand Prizes
The 2024 OMNI Competition will award three grand prizes to competition track winners selected from among all instrument categories:

• François Schubert Grand Prize: $5,000 scholarship to the winner of the Age 15-17 category
• Hydro-Québec Prize: $2,000 scholarship to the winner of Age 12-14 category
• Yannick Nézet-Séguin Prize: $2,000 scholarship to the winner of Age 7-11 category

Instrument Category Prizes
Prizes valued at $250 to $1,000 will be awarded among the finalists in each age and instrument
category.

Scholarship in Memory of Lise Beauchamp
A scholarship will be awarded in memory of oboist Lise Beauchamp. Learn more

Recitals at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur
The Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur will invite some of the competition track winners to take part
in a series of concerts as part of its 2024-2025 programming.

Participation and Audience Choice Prizes
Each participant will receive a participation prize and constructive comments from a jury formed of OM musicians and collaborators. In addition, when the first round of the competition is posted for viewing, an Audience Choice Prize will be awarded in each instrument category to the participant having received the most votes.

In the event of a tie, the jury reserves the right to split the scholarship, with the exception of
the François Schubert Grand Prize.

Crescendo* Prizes

The Crescendo Prizes, worth $100 each, are designed to encourage young people of all ages to persevere with their instrument at the beginning of their musical career. The Crescendo Prizes were awarded at the end of the first stage of the Competition by the members of the jury to 10 young people in the Participatory section whose talent and potential caught their attention:
