School bells are based on folk songs and familiar tunes, with little variation between schools. It’s interesting to think about where they come from and their cultural significance. Since it’s a tune that students hear multiple times a day, why not get them involved in the creation of a new one?
The Let it ring! project, an Orchestre Métropolitain (OM) and Centre de services scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys (CSSMB) initiative, invites students to play an active role in their school’s cultural life by working together to compose a new bell. The melodies they create based on their tastes, ideas and perception of their environment can also increase a sense of belonging to the school.
Take part in the Let it ring practical workshop offered by the OM at the FAMEQ Congress on Friday 8 November, 1:30 p.m.!
