Kim Richardson began her career at an early age as an actor and dancer in Toronto-area theatres.
In her 20th year, she won her first Juno award for the Most Promising Female Vocalist of the year with her single “He’s My Lover”. A second Juno, this one in the Best R&B/Soul Recording category, followed in 1987 for her song “Peek-a-Boo.” She completed the hat trick in 1994 with a Juno for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, recorded with The Merlin Factor.
Over the years, Kim has sung alongside many famous Canadian artists, including Céline Dion, Corey Hart, Ginette Reno, Diane Dufresne, Lara Fabian, Bruno Pelletier, Roch Voisine, Nanette Workman and Gino Vannelli, as well as international stars such as Barry White, Stevie Wonder, Robert Palmer, Murray Head and Michel Fugain.
The television show that brought her to Quebecers’ attention, Beau et Chaud, opened the door to several others: Célébrations, Ti-Mé show, Pour le plaisir, Prière de ne pas envoyer de fleurs, the Fête nationale du Québec celebrations in Montreal, Canada Day celebrations and more. She has also appeared in En direct de l’univers, Belle et Bum and Y’a du monde à messe and regularly sings the national anthem at Montreal Canadiens games.
In 2006, she formed a beautiful musical friendship with Grégory Charles, joining him on stage as a soloist and chorus member on the La cour des grands and Le choc des générations programs and in his stage shows Music Man, Vintage (including the show in New York) and Vintage 69.
Kim discovered her passion for theatre when very young, landing roles in various musicals in Toronto. This passion followed her to Quebec, where she has made her home since 1988 and where she has appeared in the Segal Centre production of Ain’t Misbehavin’ and the Just for Laughs festival’s production of Hairspray.
Kim Richardson’s discography as a chorus member totals an impressive 500 albums. However, it was only in 2006 that the general public was able to appreciate her work as a soloist on a first album titled Kaléidoscope. In 2011, Kim gave us Mes amours, a second, all-French album with a jazzy touch.
These days, Kim lends her voice to several ensembles, events and shows. She is also regularly heard at the Dièse Onze jazz club.
