René Gosselin

René Gosselin is a founding member and principal double bassist of the Orchestre Métropolitain.

He taught double bass at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal from 1989 to 2020. He co-directed a doctoral program at the University of Montreal on the polyphonic double bass from 2014 to 2016, based on the specifications for this type of instrument that he created in 1998. He was also a founding member and double bassist of the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM) from 1989 to 1999.

As double bassist and artistic director of the Quartango ensemble, René has had the privilege of distinguishing himself on the international stage. From 1984 to the present, numerous international tours have taken him to perform as a soloist and with symphony orchestras in various countries, including the United States, China, Japan, France, Turkey, and Brazil. In 1996, Quartango was invited to perform at the New York Pops Orchestra Gala at Carnegie Hall.
