Michel Bettez
As such, he has performed in recitals at some fifteen international congresses, mainly at the annual conferences of the International Double Reed Society (IDRS).
Michel Bettez has also been principal bassoonist with the Orchestre symphonique de Laval since 1990 and was a member of the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM) from 1989 to 2024. With the NEM, he has toured extensively in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
A graduate of the Montreal Conservatory of Music and the Hochschule für Musik of Munich, he received a special mention (2nd place) at the 1984 Prix d’Europe competition.
A versatile artist, he plays baroque and classical bassoons with several ensembles. He has also been a member of numerous chamber music groups, including Ensemble Pentaèdre and Les Vents de Montréal. He has taught at the Montreal Conservatory of Music and the Faculty of Music at the University of Montreal, and has given masterclasses and recitals at several universities in France, the United States, Mexico, and the Philippines.
Michel Bettez has also been invited to participate in several international juries. He has served as a judge for exams at the Lyon National Conservatory of Music, and as a jury member for the Gillet/Fox International Competition (2016), and for the Berliner International Music Competition (2018 and 2019).
