New partnership between the OM and the Université de Montréal
In order to develop the talent of music students, the Orchestre Métropolitain (OM) and Université de Montréal Faculty of Music are announcing a new major partnership.
This 3-year partnership is part of the OM’s educational mission and the Faculty of Music’s aim to offer professional-level experiences to students.
This Thursday’s announcement followed a late-afternoon rehearsal of the Orchestre de l’Université de Montréal (OUM) at the Salle Claude-Champagne, where students were conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the OM.
“Sharing our passion for classical music and practices with the next generation of musicians is in line with the OM’s founding mission and values. I’m extremely proud of the educational initiatives that the orchestra has developed over the years. This new partnership will be a welcome addition to our educational offering. It will be sure to bring stimulating projects to both of our organizations,” stated Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
“Developing a special relationship with some of the best musical creatives and professionals is an incredible opportunity for anyone who dreams of building a career in the field. We’re thrilled to offer this opportunity to our students in the Faculty of Music. This partnership is aligned with the Université de Montréal’s engagement to provide even more learning and development experiences to its students,” added Daniel Jutras, Rector at Université de Montréal.
Collaborations that will grow over the years
This long-term partnership will allow for the development of a 3-year action plan. From one year to the next, both institutions will continue enriching the partnership by adjusting or developing new initiatives.
Faculty of Music students will have the opportunity to learn about great works from the OM’s programming and meet the orchestra’s musicians and conductors. The two institutions will regularly work together to develop stimulating and enriching programs that will support the next generation of talent in various fields of study such as composition, conducting, mediation and performing.
“We’re delighted to introduce this new partnership between the OM and the Faculty of Music at one of the most reputable institutions of higher education in Quebec, the Université de Montréal. This partnership will put forward inspiring projects that promote the creativity and talent of young people while highlighting the existing relationship between our two institutions, which both strive for excellence,” said Jean R. Dupré, President and CEO of the OM.
“Whether in the fields of musicology, performance, composition or sound design, the Faculty of Music’s mandate is to ensure the growth and development of its students’ careers. This partnership with the Orchestre Métropolitain, which includes a number of the faculty’s graduates and teachers, will feature a number of opportunities for collaboration, which will enhance the academic trajectory of our young talent,” stated Nathalie Fernando, Dean of the Faculty of Music.
