Viola Concerto, 2nd movement

Walton’s Viola Concerto breaks from tradition by opening with a very lyrical slow movement. It falls to the second movement, marked Vivo con molto preciso, to provide the soloist with the opportunity to shine in a high-spirited, dauntingly virtuosic scherzo.
