Poème de l’amour et de la mer, Interlude

Ernest CHAUSSON

1855-1899

The years pass like waves, leaving no trace on Orlando. The sense of eternity is transposed to the orchestra through Chausson’s
music. The interlude to the song cycle Poème de l’amour et de la mer evokes a sense of calm and the ephemeral nature of life. The melody of the orchestral interlude echoes a theme from the song cycle “Le temps des lilas,” which says: “The time of lilacs and the time of roses; Will no longer come again this spring. The time of lilacs and the time of roses; Has past, the time of carnations too”
