Christmas Overture

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor

1875 – 1912

English composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was similarly seduced by the spirit of the holidays when he wrote his Christmas Overture. Combining several popular carols, he composed a work full of charm and energy, whose festive side is only heightened by the glowing colours of the brass.

Like every tale passed from generation to generation, Christmas carols have a backstory often embellished by time. But doesn’t every legend contain at least a modicum of truth?
