La symphonie du fleuve
This Sunday, May 22 at 9 p.m., don’t miss the broadcast of La symphonie du fleuve on ICI Radio-Canada Télé!
Under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Orchestre Métropolitain pays tribute to the St. Lawrence River and its power, freedom, resilience, and lyrical flow in this intimate concert recorded at Place Calder in Parc Jean-Drapeau, Montreal.
The breathtaking images of the documentary short film La symphonie du fleuve (The Symphony of the River), produced by Parce Que Films are poetically swathed in Smetana’s symphonic poem The Moldau, Odawa First Nation composer Barbara Assiginaak’s Eko-Bmijwang (As Long as the River Flows), and Debussy’s La Mer.
A unique portrait of the St. Lawrence River from the Magdalen Islands to Les Escoumins, the Gaspé Peninsula to the North Shore and Natashquan to Bic National Park, its journey ending at Place Calder in the heart of Île-Sainte-Hélène.
The Orchestre Métropolitain wishes to thank the Government of Quebec, the City of Montreal and the Charles S. Campbell Estate, the Ville-Marie Borough, the Conseil des arts de Montréal, the Fondation Musicaction, the Fonds solidarité FTQ, Tourisme Montréal, Tourisme Côte-Nord, Tourisme Autochtone Québec and La Société du parc Jean-Drapeau.
This project was made possible by the Government of Canada.
Our thanks to Hydro-Québec, principal partner of the Orchestre Métropolitain, and Power Corporation of Canada, Grand Ambassador of the Orchestre Métropolitain.
