A NORDIC TALE

SIBELIUS - A. MATHIEU

Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5 is a nuanced and colourful portrait of wild Scandinavian landscapes. The orchestra brings the sound of swan wings rustling to life… while the horns respond with the elegant bird’s call. On the podium, Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads a triumphant finale.

In Sibelius’s tone poem En saga, nothing is lost but everything is transformed. Guided by three melodies, we follow an imaginary Finnish hero in his travels across his Nordic homeland. And to add some local flavour, the Orchestre will perform the great Romantic-inspired musical fresco, André Mathieu’s Concerto de Québec.
