Dominique Fils-Aimé
Her work is distinguished by an ambitious trilogy of albums that conceptualizes the history of African American music, reflecting on the social realities that shaped blues, jazz, and soul. Through this process, Dominique develops a deep appreciation for the emotional core of these musical traditions and channels that spirit into her own creative expression.
Her debut album, Nameless (2018), infused with blues influences, quickly became a reference recording for audiophiles around the world and led to two sold‑out performances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival the same year.
Dominique Fils‑Aimé achieved her major breakthrough with her second album, Stay Tuned!, which was the subject of an in‑depth feature on Radio‑Canada’s Revelation Jazz. The album was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, won the 2020 JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, and was named one of CBC’s 19 Best Canadian Albums of 2019.
Within the first weeks following the release of her third album, Three Little Words, Dominique reached number one in album sales in Québec and number two in Canada, generating over 300 international media features. On stage, whether in Canada—including performances opening for Allison Russell at Koerner Hall in Toronto—or in Europe, where she opened for artists such as Melody Gardot, Diana Krall, and Ibrahim Maalouf, Dominique Fils‑Aimé’s magnetic stage presence draws audiences into a powerful and transcendent musical journey.
Her fourth album, Our Roots Run Deep, released in September 2023, frames her latest work within a gentle, dreamlike narrative structure that tells a story of growth. For Dominique, nature serves as both an anchor and a source of inspiration, offering metaphors through which she explores the unique yet interconnected paths of human experience.
