Youth Spirit | The Toy Symphony

The Orchestre Métropolitain invites you to its symphonic matinées, which will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017, at the Théâtre Outremont. Childhood and play are keys to the universe of the composers featured in this concert. The celebrated Toy Symphony will be performed alongside a new work by Quebec composer Gabriel Dharmoo which similarly juggles amusing and unusual sounds. Works by Popper, David and Bartók will let you discover the talent of our young guest soloists. Conductor Nicolas Ellis will lead the play.

Launched during the 2009-2010 season on the initiative of our artistic director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and honorary concertmaster Denise Lupien, the Youth Spirit series celebrates the talent of local young musicians. For this eighth edition, the Orchestre Métropolitain welcomes Marie-Pier Simard Gagnon and Léonard Pineault-Deault, two young and very talented soloists, as well as the composer Gabriel Dharmoo, whose piece titled lance, frappe, devine we will premiere with the participation of fifth- and sixth-year students from the Musique-études program at the École de musique Vincent-d’Indy. The Les Petits Violons ensemble will also join in the fun.
