On May 14, the Orchestre Métropolitain’s traditional benefit gala, slated to take place at Arsenal Contemporary Art, underwent a complete transformation into an original and unprecedented event. The gala shifted its focus to gratitude—thanking the gala’s honorary chairs, co-chairs, partners and donors for their engagement and hard work. For the first time, the event brought together over 50 personalities online.
The OM put a new twist on the event, which is traditionally a musical and gourmet affair. Yannick Nézet-Séguin teamed up with Hakim Chajar, chef and owner of Miel, who selected local products to create gift baskets that were delivered to each participant.
Jean St-Gelais and François Gratton, the gala’s honorary chairs said: “La Capitale and TELUS are proud to have come together to make this Great Conductor, Great Chef gala a success, and to contribute to the Orchestre Métropolitain’s future. The unifying force of music has taken on a whole new meaning this year, which is why it’s so important to help the Orchestre Métropolitain and Yannick Nézet-Séguin pursue their mission.”
Hosted by Pénélope McQuade, the reimagined event also featured a toast to Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s 20th anniversary on the podium and his lifetime contract, a true commitment to OM musicians and the community.
Despite having to cancel their traditional gala, the OM raised $368,000—a remarkable achievement.
