Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman No. 1

Joan TOWER

1938

Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman No. 1 is the first in a series of six fanfares composed by American Joan Tower, all dedicated to inspiring “women who are adventurous and take risks.” In particular, it’s dedicated to Marin Alsop, a pioneering female conductor who made history as the first woman appointed as artistic director of a major American orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, in 2005.
