Major Cultural Donation

For individuals

The Orchestre Métropolitain encourages those who take part in this funding program to make an in-perpetuity donation of between $5,000 and $25,000.

The Quebec government grants an additional income tax credit of 25% for an initial major cultural donation.

A $25,000 in-perpetuity donation enables the OM to apply for a matching grant from participating patron families through the Mécénat Musica Program.

The $25,000 donation also allows the OM to apply for matching grants from the Quebec Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and Heritage Canada.

All told, this can result in a capital contribution of between $25,000 and $250,000 for the Orchestre Métropolitain.

The tax measures related to the program mean that, for the donor, the actual cost amounts to only around a quarter of the amount originally donated – for example, $6,750 for a donation of $25,000.

Individuals can make this type of donation only once during their life.

For families

Each $250,000 donation from members of a family or from their company or foundation will be matched by a $250,000 donation from other families.

The resulting $500,000 will allow the OM to apply for matching grants from the Quebec Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and Heritage Canada.

Combined, this can increase by sixfold the value of an initial $250,000 donation, giving a total of $1.5 million.

All funds raised through the Mécénat Musica Program will be deposited in the Orchestre Métropolitain Endowment Fund, which is administered by the Foundation of Greater Montréal and the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal, ensuring the fund’s sustainability.

The OM’s goal is to reach a total of $10 million in major cultural donations by December 31, 2022, and to obtain 12 new $25,000 contributions.
