Education at the OM

Encourage discovery and cultivate passion

A Montréal mainstay for 40 years, the Orchestre Métropolitain has built a unique relationship with its audience, contributing to collective well-being through music. With its solid educational partnerships, the OM and its musicians want to help young people discover music. OM musicians share their love of music with young and old alike and give young artists the opportunity to perform with the Orchestre season after season.

“A single moment of elation during a concert can ignite a lifelong passion. The OM’s musicians and I are proud to work with the next generation of musical talent, awakening a passion among young people.”

— Yannick Nézet-Séguin

The OM’s educational mission is focused on accessibility and inclusion, and is broken down into 4 components:

The OM for Schools

In partnership with local educational institutions, the OM enhances the educational experience of over 10,000 students every year through school matinees, workshops, special projects, and online teaching resources.

The OM for Young Talent

The OM continues to create new initiatives like the OMNI Competition and the OM Preludes to promote musical education, and to support and showcase young musical talent.

The OM for Families

Through its resources and activities, the OM gives families the opportunity to come together and experience the wonder of symphonic music, creating lasting memories for young and old alike.

The OM for the Community

The OM reaches out to Montrealers, coming to their neighbourhoods, stimulating curiosity and encouraging a dialogue between artists and the public. Every year, the OM holds various events that engage the public, such as Tutti, the OM Music at Noon series and concerts in healthcare settings.
