FESTIVE DANCES

RIMSKY-KORSAKOV - PIAZZOLLA - BORODIN - TCHAIKOVSKY

Rising star Gemma New brings her energy to this high-spirited program, which will come to a crescendo with Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite. New will also welcome to the stage soloist in residence Blake Pouliot, whose intense and expressive playing is perfectly suited to Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.

With its castanets and tambourine, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol brings the rhythms of flamenco and majestic corridas to life. In contrast, Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances” stirs up a brutal splendour on stage. Rounding out the program is Piazzolla’s vibrant and energetic Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, with a few nods to Vivaldi, and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, which features the classic holiday ballet’s best moments.
