From the first triumphant notes to the bitter end, Strauss’s tone poem Don Juan leads us down a path lined with pride, charm and tenderness. In this double program conducted by Nicolas Ellis, cellist Stéphane Tétreault’s talent shines in two concerti: the lyrical Jaëll and the powerful Lalo.
Liszt’s Les Préludes and Strauss’s Don Juan have delighted audiences around the world since the 19th century. Stéphane Tétreault brings masterful musicality to the poetic Jaëll Concerto, which provides a delicate contrast to the passionate Lalo. In addition, the Orchestre will perform Quebec-based composer Éric Champagne’s Festive Overture as a counterpoint to Beethoven’s overture to King Stephen, a musical synopsis of the German composer’s style.
